Amid rising tensions and tariff disputes between the United States and China, Pakistan is urging Chinese companies to relocate their industries to Gwadar, a key port city under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor – CPEC. Pakistan aims to capitalize on the shifting global trade dynamics by offering Gwadar as a strategic manufacturing and export hub. The move seeks to strengthen economic ties with China, boost local development, and position Gwadar as a regional trade and industrial center, while providing Chinese firms a way to mitigate the impact of US tariffs.
In response to the ongoing US-China trade tensions, Pakistan is developing a strategy to attract Chinese industries seeking relocation due to high US tariffs. The government is crafting a framework offering incentives, especially in Gwadar under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The Cabinet Committee on Chinese Investment Projects (CCoCIP) has tasked agencies with creating a relocation roadmap and issued directives to facilitate exports and improve infrastructure, including power supply to Gwadar and Rashakai Special Economic Zone. Progress reports are expected at the next CCoCIP meeting.
