Chairman of Pasban Democratic party (PDP) Altaf Shakoor says that without urgent action on food and water security there can be no sustainable future for Pakistan
The Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed worries over Pakistan’s growing food insecurity and deteriorating water scarcity, characterising them as significant long-term issues for the nation.
According to PDP Chairman Altaf Shakoor, food security is now a problem for national stability, the economy, and society in addition to agriculture.
Despite its agricultural potential, he pointed out that Pakistan still has to deal with food inflation, diminishing agricultural production, and pressure on disadvantaged groups.
At the same time, the nation is under more and more water stress, and the amount of water available per person is gradually decreasing. The problem has been made more difficult by problems including groundwater depletion, ineffective irrigation techniques, and a lack of water storage capacity.
PDP highlighted the necessity for increased agricultural water efficiency, especially the application of contemporary irrigation techniques like drip and sprinkler systems, in order to allay these worries.
In order to sustain productivity in the face of shifting environmental conditions, the party also emphasised the significance of implementing climate-resilient agricultural measures, such as drought-resistant seeds and enhanced farming methods.
PDP claims that tackling the issues of food and water is crucial to guaranteeing a sustainable future for the country, necessitating long-term planning and concerted policy attention.
