Punjab Police will introduce AI-powered “Police Eye” vans for traffic monitoring. The system aims to improve enforcement, safety and real-time surveillance.
Punjab Police is preparing to introduce “Police Eye” smart patrol vans equipped with artificial intelligence to strengthen traffic monitoring and public safety.
The vehicles will feature high-resolution 360-degree cameras capable of scanning traffic in real time, even at speed. Using AI-based recognition, the system can detect altered or fake number plates and instantly notify officers about vehicles linked to unpaid e-challans.
In addition to enforcement, the technology will assist in identifying overloaded commercial vehicles, helping reduce road damage and safety risks. By connecting with centralised law enforcement databases, the vans will also support the tracking of stolen vehicles and wanted individuals through automated facial and plate recognition.
Officials say the initiative is part of a broader effort to modernise policing through digital tools, building on existing urban surveillance and command systems.
The first phase will see deployment in major cities including Lahore, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi, with plans to extend coverage across the province in later stages. Authorities expect the system to improve compliance with traffic laws and enhance response capabilities on roads.
