Zindigi and WASA Lahore introduce Raast QR bill payments, enabling instant digital payments and supporting Punjab’s Smart City vision.
Pakistan’s digital payments ecosystem received a further boost as Zindigi, powered by JS Bank, partnered with WASA Lahore to introduce Raast QR-based bill payment functionality, enabling customers to pay water utility bills through digital channels.
The initiative aligns with the Punjab government’s Smart City vision and broader efforts to promote digital financial inclusion and accelerate the transition toward a cashless economy. Through the new system, customers can make instant WASA bill payments by scanning a Raast QR code using participating banking and mobile banking applications, eliminating the need for manual payment processes.
The agreement was formalised during a signing ceremony held at the WASA Lahore Head Office, attended by senior representatives from both organisations. Participants included WASA Lahore Managing Director Ghufran Ahmed, Director (Planning & Evaluation) Mudasser Javaid, Director (Finance) Ather Mehmood, Director (Revenue) Murtaza Hassan and Deputy Director (IT) Ahsan Hayat. Zindigi was represented by Chief Business Officer Atif Ishaque, Unit Head – Public Sector Adil Ghafoor, ESS Manager Sara Masood and Content Manager Sidra Khalid.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ghufran Ahmed said WASA Lahore continues to advance its technological transformation through the adoption of digital payment solutions. He noted that the implementation of Raast QR payments is expected to reduce processing times and operational costs while improving convenience, accessibility and flexibility for customers across Lahore.
Mudasser Javaid highlighted the initiative’s alignment with the Chief Minister Punjab’s Smart City agenda, stating that digital payment technologies are helping modernise public service delivery and create a more seamless experience for citizens. He added that solutions such as Raast QR payments improve accessibility while supporting the development of a cashless payment ecosystem.
Atif Ishaque said the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to accelerating Pakistan’s transition toward a digitally empowered economy. He noted that WASA Lahore’s digital readiness enabled the smooth rollout of the solution and identified further opportunities for innovation in public-sector digitisation.
The partnership represents another step in expanding the use of Pakistan’s Raast instant payment infrastructure across public services. By integrating digital payments into utility bill collection, the initiative aims to improve efficiency, enhance customer experience and support wider adoption of secure and convenient financial technologies.
Both organisations said the collaboration demonstrates how public and private sector partnerships can leverage technology to improve citizen services while advancing Pakistan’s digital transformation agenda.
