The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has finalized the draft for its Telecom Equipment Standards Regulations after a thorough review by the Law and Justice Division. Now, the regulations are awaiting approval from the Cabinet’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC).
Once the ECC gives the green light, the draft will move to the Cabinet for final approval. After that, the regulations will officially become effective, ensuring a structured and standardized approach to telecom equipment quality.
To oversee this process, PTA has established the Standards and Conformance Assurance Directorate, a specialized body for defining testing methodologies in line with regulatory technical standards.
These regulations will directly impact telecom licensees, manufacturers, and importers, covering key aspects like electromagnetic compatibility, health and safety, and radio frequency communication. The goal is to keep substandard or incompatible products off the market, protecting networks and consumers.
By introducing rigorous testing standards, PTA aims to enhance communication reliability, prevent technical issues, and safeguard businesses and consumers from faulty telecom equipment.
