Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that Pakistan’s #economy is stabilizing after a year of focused efforts by Government of Pakistan. Speaking at Youm-e-Tameer-o-Taraqqi, he credited the #economic team for securing a $7 #billion, three-year International Monetary Fund #program, which prevented default.

He acknowledged the burden on the #salaried class, which contributed Rs300 billion in taxes under the #IMF conditions. However, inflation has dropped from 40% to 2.4% in January 2025, leading to a lower #policy rate.

Sharif urged the business community to support economic reforms and assured their involvement in #policymaking. He highlighted the government’s crackdown on #smuggling, securing $211 million through legal sugar exports to Afghanistan. He also praised the military and law enforcement agencies for their role in curbing #illegal trade.

On #privatization, he reiterated that Government of Pakistan is withdrawing from business activities. He stressed that without eliminating #terrorism, Pakistan cannot achieve sustainable #growth.

Sharif expressed confidence in the recently launched “Uraan Pakistan” program, aiming for long-term economic #stability. He called for unity across all sectors to ensure lasting progress.
