Chinese Electric Vehicle (EV) giant Build Your Dreams (BYD) is all set to roll out its first locally assembled car in Pakistan by July or August 2026, according to company executive Danish Khaliq. The plant is being built near Karachi in partnership with Mega Motor Company, a subsidiary of The Hub Power Company Limited (HUBCO).

The assembly unit, currently under construction since April, will initially have a capacity of 25,000 units per year on a double shift. It will start with assembling imported parts while producing some non-electric components locally. Though the early focus is on domestic sales, BYD may consider exports to nearby right-hand drive markets in the future.

Since March, BYD has already been selling imported EVs in Pakistan, with sales exceeding expectations by 30%, even with only a few hundred units sold. The company expects the EV and plug-in hybrid market to triple or even quadruple in size by 2025, targeting a 30–35% market share.

BYD is also set to launch its Shark 6 plug-in hybrid pickup truck this Friday, joining competitors like MG and Haval. To boost EV adoption, the government had earlier reduced charging tariffs by 45% in January.
