Sazgar Engineering has opened a Philippines plant capable of producing 12,000 three-wheelers annually, expanding the Pakistani automaker’s manufacturing presence in Southeast Asia.
Sazgar Engineering Works Limited has expanded its manufacturing operations beyond Pakistan with the opening of a three-wheeler production facility in the Philippines’ Laguna province.
The new plant has an annual assembly capacity of around 12,000 vehicles and will produce both electric and internal combustion engine three-wheelers. The facility represents Sazgar’s latest move to establish a stronger manufacturing presence in international markets.
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. attended the inauguration and said the investment supported the country’s objective of attracting manufacturers that establish local production rather than only market imported products.
“That is the kind of investment that we want, not just companies that sell to the Filipinos but companies that make things with the Filipinos,” Marcos said.
He said the project would contribute to the development of the Philippines’ manufacturing industry while supporting the shift towards cleaner forms of transportation.
The facility is also expected to generate jobs for Filipino workers and create opportunities for domestic suppliers, including businesses involved in battery components, rubber and lubricants.
Marcos also highlighted the range of the plant’s electric three-wheelers, saying the vehicles can cover between 100 and 210 kilometres on a single charge. This could allow them to operate through a full day without relying on petrol.
Sazgar Engineering was incorporated as a private limited company in Pakistan in 1991 before becoming a public limited company in 1994. Its operations cover the manufacture and sale of automobiles, automotive components and accessories, as well as household electrical appliances.
The company is among Pakistan’s major rickshaw manufacturers and operates production facilities in Lahore. Its product range includes auto rickshaws, tractor wheel rims and home appliances.
International exports form part of Sazgar’s expansion strategy. The company has previously supplied three-wheelers to markets including Japan, Ethiopia, Qatar, Dubai, Mauritania and Afghanistan. Its export destinations in 2024 included Japan, Liberia, Tanzania and Afghanistan.
Sazgar announced in September 2025 that it was seeking to enter additional overseas markets, identifying the Philippines, Mexico and Afghanistan as priority destinations.
The establishment of the Philippine facility now gives the company a local manufacturing base in Southeast Asia while supporting its broader effort to diversify export markets and revenue sources.
