The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in partnership with PTCL.Official, Transworld Home, Nayatel, CYBERNET, and Wateen Telecom Limited, has launched a six-month free Wi-Fi initiative across selected HEC-recognized universities, including women’s institutions. This step aims to digitally empower students and promote online learning nationwide.
As part of the initiative, 200 locally assembled smartphones will be distributed to female SIM card holders in Pakistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) through a computerized ballot. PTA reaffirmed its commitment to expanding digital inclusion and nationwide connectivity.
The announcement celebrates a major telecom milestone—crossing 200 million subscribers, including 125 million broadband and 15 million FTTH users. To mark the occasion, all mobile subscribers will receive 2 GB of free data and 200 on-net minutes on June 20, 2025, by dialing *2200#.
Additionally, PTA, Ufone 4G, and the Ministry of IT have launched a Digital Outreach Program to set up internet labs and distribute free laptops in selected universities across Balochistan and merged districts.
