Shehbaz Sharif has confirmed that fuel relief payments for public transport and freight operators are now being distributed through digital wallets as part of government support measures.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the initiative aims to ensure transparent and efficient delivery of subsidies to bus, wagon and truck operators affected by rising fuel prices.
The relief is being provided to public transport vehicles as well as goods transport and freight operators, with funds transferred digitally to improve speed and accountability. The government emphasized that supporting economically vulnerable groups remains a top priority during the ongoing economic and energy challenges.
Officials briefed the prime minister on petroleum reserves and confirmed that adequate fuel supplies are available to meet national demand. The government also reiterated that savings generated through austerity measures will be redirected toward public relief initiatives.
The move comes amid a sharp increase in fuel prices driven by global oil market pressures, which have significantly impacted transport costs and inflation across the country.
