The Africa-1 submarine cable, basically an ultra-high-capacity data highway under the sea, just made landfall at PTCL.Official’s landing station on Sea View Beach, Karachi, and thats a pretty big deal. Why? Well because this beast of a cable stretches a whopping 10,000 kilometers, connecting Pakistan with a whole lineup of countries, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, Sudan, Algeria, France, Kenya, and Djibouti.
It’s the brainchild of the Africa-1 consortium, a team of major telecom players including Saudi Arabia’s Mobily, UAE’s e& and G42 (both UAE), Telecom Egypt, Zain Omantel International (ZOI), Algérie Telecom, TeleYemen, among other global giants. Essentially, a powerhouse squad making sure connectivity stays fast and seamless.
With this cable, Pakistan’s internet infrastructure will unlock a massive upgrade, such as more bandwidth, lower latency, and smoother international connectivity to begin with.
