Pakistan and Germany on Thursday signed a Technical Cooperation Agreement worth €40.5 million to launch nine development projects focused on climate resilience, renewable energy, and social protection. The agreement marks another step in the long-running development partnership between the two countries, with Germany continuing its support for Pakistan’s socio-economic priorities.
The agreement was signed by Muhammad Humair Karim Kidwai and Ina Lepel during a ceremony attended by senior officials from Pakistan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and representatives of the German Embassy. Germany’s development bank KfW will provide both financial and technical backing for the projects under the new framework.
Speaking at the ceremony, Kidwai praised Germany’s ongoing support for Pakistan’s development agenda and highlighted the strength of bilateral cooperation over the decades. He said the two countries have maintained a partnership since 1961 that is rooted in “mutual trust and cooperation.” He also noted that Germany remains one of Pakistan’s most significant development partners, with an active bilateral portfolio of nearly €550 million.
Quote: “Pakistan and Germany have maintained a strong and enduring development partnership since 1961.”
German Ambassador Ina Lepel reaffirmed Berlin’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive development initiatives in Pakistan. She said the agreement reflects a shared resolve to tackle challenges such as climate change, energy transition, and social vulnerability through joint action and practical cooperation.
Quote: “Germany values its longstanding partnership with Pakistan and remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote sustainable and inclusive development.”
Lepel expressed confidence that the projects would create tangible benefits for communities across Pakistan while further strengthening ties between the two countries. The agreement is expected to accelerate cooperation in sectors viewed as critical to Pakistan’s long-term economic and environmental stability.
