                      Govt Set to Double Regulatory Duty on Imported Handsets

                      As per the latest reports, the government has plans to double the regulatory duty on imported handsets. The decision is being driven by the need to stabilize the country’s worsening balance of payment. The potential new duties will vary between Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 44,000 on single device import.

                      According to the new proposal, the mobile set of PKR 3000 on the valuation of $ 30-100 the duty is proposed at PKR 6ooo, the mobile set of PKR 7500 on the valuation of $ 101-200 the duty is proposed at PKR 15ooo, on the mobile set of PKR 11000 on the valuation of $ 201-350 the duty is proposed at PKR 22ooo, on the mobile set of PKR 15000 on the valuation of $ 351-500 the duty is proposed at PKR 30,ooo, on the mobile set of PKR 22000 on the valuation of above $ 500 the duty is proposed at PKR 44,ooo.

                      The government also has plans to increase the regulatory duty on other goods to divert the potential financial crisis that is heading for our country. Other notable increases include a 10% increase on machinery and a 50% increase on home appliances.
