Your National ID card will now be your Digital Wallet: Nadra

Under the government’s Digital Pakistan vision, Nadra has taken the step to make the computerized national ID cards (Nicop) digital wallets. The National Database and Registration Authority of Pakistan will issue an update to an already existing app later this year.

In an exclusive interview with a news channel, Nadra’s chief Tariq Malik said “We have launched the ‘Pak Identity’ mobile app which will be a key building block of digital ID to facilitate applicants of national identity cards through an online portal.”

The app will help create biometric fingerprints, facial recognition and also scan documents needed for processing a person’s ID cars with the help of smartphones. All of these processes can now be done without visiting a Nadra office or an embassy.

Since a short span of its launch almost 75,000 Pakistanis have processed their national identity cards from the comfort of their own homes with the help of the app. The app is supported by two-factor authentication to ensure user data privacy. It is available for download on both iOS and android platforms.

Moreover, with the launch of this app, Pakistan has now become the first country to implement ‘contactless biometric’ registration and verification via smartphones. With the successful testing done with over 75,000 accounts, Nadra will now go for National ID cards digital wallets.
