Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and World Bank Group President Ajay Banga have agreed to accelerate the implementation of reform-linked development projects under Pakistan’s Country Partnership Framework (CPF), with a strong emphasis on oversight and timely delivery.
During a meeting in Islamabad, the prime minister welcomed Banga on his first official visit to Pakistan as president of the World Bank Group and acknowledged the institution’s long-standing partnership with the country. He highlighted the World Bank’s continued support for Pakistan’s development priorities through the 10-year CPF, which underpins reforms across multiple sectors.
Shehbaz Sharif said the government is pursuing a comprehensive, home-grown economic reform programme aimed at achieving sustainable economic stability. He noted World Bank support in areas including resilient infrastructure, agribusiness, digital development, energy, human capital, fiscal reforms and efforts to mobilise productive private investment to generate jobs and spur growth.
Both leaders underscored the need to fast-track project execution and strengthen monitoring mechanisms to ensure results are delivered at speed and scale. These measures align with the prime minister’s initiative to identify and resolve implementation bottlenecks in development projects.
Ajay Banga praised the government’s reform momentum and reaffirmed the World Bank Group’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Pakistan through a One World Bank Group approach. He stressed that mobilising private capital and close coordination with development partners would be critical to meeting the scale and ambition of Pakistan’s reform agenda.
