The Government of Pakistan is preparing for the arrival of World Bank President Ajay Banga, who will begin a five-day visit to Islamabad on January 31, 2026.
During his stay, Banga and his team will meet with senior officials to review Pakistan’s reform agenda and address pressing issues in the energy and fiscal sectors. A joint meeting on February 2 will bring together Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, Power Minister Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, and Federal Board of Revenue Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial.
The Economic Affairs Division has directed ministries to prepare short presentations highlighting progress and reform priorities. Officials said the visit will provide “an opportunity for in-depth discussions on Pakistan’s energy sector and fiscal sustainability.”
This trip follows earlier engagements, including a meeting between World Bank Vice President Ousmane Dione and Minister Leghari to review energy reforms. The government views Banga’s visit as a chance to deepen collaboration with the World Bank and align future strategies with Pakistan’s economic transformation plan.
