

Pakistan and the World Bank are exploring battery storage and deeper cooperation to strengthen the grid and keep energy reforms moving forward.

Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari met The World Bank Country Director Bolormaa Amgaabazar on Thursday to assess progress on existing power sector initiatives and discuss areas for further collaboration.
During the meeting, the minister emphasised the need for World Bank support in developing battery energy storage systems, describing them as critical for improving energy efficiency and strengthening grid stability. He said international expertise could also help encourage domestic investment in storage solutions, which are increasingly important as Pakistan expands its energy mix.
Leghari expressed appreciation for the World Bank’s ongoing technical assistance, noting that enhanced cooperation would help speed up sector reforms and reinforce the country’s power infrastructure.
The World Bank Country Director acknowledged the reform measures underway in Pakistan’s energy sector and reiterated the institution’s commitment to supporting the country’s transition toward a more sustainable and dependable power system.
Both sides agreed on the importance of expanding technical collaboration and identifying new investment opportunities to support long-term improvements in the power sector, reflecting a shared focus on reliability, efficiency, and sustainable growth.
