Production has commenced from the Spinwam-1 exploratory well in the Waziristan Block, adding 40 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) of gas and around 200 barrels per day of condensate to Pakistan’s national energy supply.
The well is part of the Waziristan Joint Venture, operated by Mari Energies Limited in partnership with Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and Orient Petroleum Inc.. The participating interests stand at 55 per cent, 35 per cent and 10 per cent, respectively.
With the addition of Spinwam-1, total gas output from the Waziristan Block has now reached approximately 100 MMCFD, alongside around 800 barrels per day of condensate being supplied to the national gas network.
The development follows the earlier Shewa-1 discovery, making Spinwam-1 the second successful exploratory well in the block. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik said the discovery would strengthen Pakistan’s energy security, reduce import dependence and support economic stability.
Officials also highlighted the completion of a Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited transmission pipeline linking Shewa-1 and Spinwam-1 to the national grid, ensuring efficient integration into the country’s gas supply network.
