Punjab has expanded its partnership with Huawei to accelerate artificial intelligence training, digital infrastructure and smart public services, including plans to train 1,000 young people and 300 women while establishing six data centres at Nawaz Sharif IT City.
Punjab has expanded cooperation with Chinese technology giant Huawei on artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure and smart public services, with plans to train 1,000 young people as Huawei master trainers and provide specialised AI training to 300 women.
According to Profit and Dawn, the initiative was discussed during Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s meeting with senior Huawei officials in China.
The collaboration includes an agreement to train 1,000 young people from Punjab as Huawei master trainers, while 300 women will separately receive AI training. The programme is intended to strengthen Punjab’s technology talent base and expand access to advanced digital skills.
The discussions also covered the establishment of an Artificial Intelligence Delivery Unit in Punjab and six data centres at Nawaz Sharif IT City, including a sovereign data centre. A focal person will also be designated to improve coordination between Huawei and the Pakistani government.
Dawn reported that the meeting focused on “expanding cooperation in AI, digital infrastructure and smart public services,” while the two sides agreed on the training of “1,000 youth from Punjab as Huawei master trainers.”
The partnership extends beyond AI training. The two sides discussed cooperation in smart cities, command centres, healthcare, education, agriculture and manufacturing, alongside cloud technologies, digital infrastructure and smart public services.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said AI development was a major priority for Punjab. “Talent development and inclusive access to technology are key pillars of Punjab’s strategy,” she said, according to Profit.
She added that cloud computing, digital infrastructure and locally developed AI models would be developed within Punjab, highlighting the province’s ambition to build a stronger technology ecosystem.
Special Assistant Ali Dar said Punjab had established an AI office and was already using artificial intelligence in areas including healthcare, education, infrastructure, agriculture, traffic management and governance.
He also said Punjab was targeting a fully AI-integrated and interconnected system by 2029. According to the report, AI is being introduced as a compulsory subject in government educational institutions, while training is also being extended to civil servants and members of the provincial cabinet.
The latest initiative reflects Punjab’s broader push to attract international technology companies, develop local digital talent and expand AI-enabled public services. Huawei, meanwhile, said it would continue supporting Punjab’s digital transformation and sustainable development efforts.
