Mughal Energy Limited has commissioned the main 31.50MW turbine of its captive hybrid power plant, achieving Commercial Operation Date and clearing the unit for commercial billing following successful testing and commissioning.
Mughal Energy Limited, a subsidiary of Mughal Iron & Steel Industries Limited, has successfully commissioned the main 31.50MW turbine of its captive hybrid power plant, marking a significant operational milestone for the company’s energy infrastructure.
According to Profit and Business Recorder, Mughal Energy informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange on August 31 that the turbine had achieved its Commercial Operation Date (COD) after completing the required testing and commissioning activities.
The company stated that the main turbine had been successfully commissioned and was now ready for commercial billing.
In its notification to the exchange, the company said it had “successfully commissioned the main 31.50 MW turbine of its captive hybrid power plant project” and had “achieved its Commercial Operation Date (COD)” following the completion of the necessary testing and commissioning work.
Business Recorder reported that the company had informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange of the development and was “ready for commercial billing” after achieving COD. The development is particularly significant because Mughal Energy is part of Mughal Iron & Steel Industries Limited, a major Pakistani steel manufacturer. The captive power plant is designed to support the group’s energy requirements and strengthen the reliability of its electricity supply.
The successful commissioning means the 31.50MW turbine has moved from the testing and commissioning phase into commercial operations. The company’s notification confirms that the necessary technical and operational requirements have been completed. Profit reported that the milestone followed the “successful completion of all requisite testing and commissioning activities,” allowing the unit to enter the commercial billing stage.
Mughal Energy Limited was incorporated in Pakistan as a public limited company and is involved in the generation, purchase, import, transformation, conversion, distribution, supply and other activities related to electricity and energy.
The Pakistan Stock Exchange identifies Mughal Energy as a subsidiary of Mughal Iron & Steel Industries Limited. The company is headquartered in Lahore, while its generation facility is located on the Lahore-Sheikhupura Road.
The broader project has previously been associated with a larger generation configuration. Regulatory documents submitted to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority identify a 36.50MW facility comprising a 31.50MW main unit and a 5MW unit.
The commissioning of the 31.50MW turbine therefore represents an important step in bringing the captive hybrid power project into commercial operation.
For Mughal Iron & Steel, captive generation can provide greater control over electricity availability and support industrial operations, particularly for energy-intensive manufacturing activities. The company said the information was being disclosed to the exchange in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
The latest development also highlights the continued investment by Pakistani industrial groups in captive energy infrastructure as businesses seek greater reliability and control over their power requirements.
