PTA clarifies Huawei License Suspension Misreported

Pakistan’s telecom sector continues to draw attention amid regulatory decisions, prompting clarifications to avoid misinformation. Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has clarified that Huawei Technologies’ license suspension only applies to a specific service and does not affect its overall operations in Pakistan. In a press release, PTA stated that Huawei was granted Data CVAS License No DIR(L)/CVAS-877-PTA/2017 on 8th September 2017 for the purpose of operating a vehicle tracking service within the country. However, the company did not begin operations under this license, which led to its suspension solely due to non-commencement of services.

PTA addressed reports circulating in the media that suggested HUAWEI Pakistan entire service portfolio had been suspended. The authority clarified that this interpretation is incorrect and misleading. The suspension pertains exclusively to the vehicle tracking license and has no impact on any other operations being provided by Huawei Technologies (Private) Limited to telecom operators across Pakistan.

All other business activities, projects and service engagements between Huawei and its telecom partners in the country continue as usual. PTA urged media outlets to verify facts before publication, as inaccurate reporting could damage confidence in international partnerships and technological investments in the region. The authority reaffirmed its commitment to transparent regulation while supporting the growth of Pakistan’s telecom and tech sectors.
