Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during his visit to China, highlighted Pakistan’s interest in adopting advanced disaster management technologies. On Sunday, he visited the National Earthquake Simulation Center at Tianjin University, where he praised China’s innovative approaches in disaster preparedness, saying they could prove highly beneficial for Pakistan. He stressed that ongoing initiatives such as the China-Pakistan Joint Lab and the International Medical Center should be strengthened further to better tackle natural calamities.
The Prime Minister also addressed Pakistan’s ongoing flood relief operations, noting that aid convoys have been dispatched to Narowal, Sialkot, Wazirabad, Hafizabad, Chiniot, and Jhang. He directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Pakistan to remain in close coordination with the Punjab government to ensure smooth relief distribution, reaffirming the government’s full support to flood-affected families.
During the visit, Shehbaz was briefed on Chinese-developed disaster technologies, including medical rescue vehicles and Belt and Road Initiative projects like the China-Pakistan Friendship Hospital and the International Medical Cooperation Center.
This marks Shehbaz Sharif’s first trip to China since the May conflict with India, in which Pakistan claimed to have shot down six Indian fighter jets. The visit also underscored China’s growing reputation in advanced military and disaster technologies.
