Pakistan has signed an LoI with Plug and Play to support 300 startups through global mentorship, investment opportunities and access to Silicon Valley’s innovation network.
Pakistan has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Silicon Valley-based Plug and Play Tech Center to strengthen the country’s startup ecosystem by expanding access to global mentorship, investment opportunities and international innovation networks.
The agreement was witnessed by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Prof. Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary during his visit to Plug and Play’s headquarters in California, where he met Founder and Chief Executive Officer Saeed Amidi to discuss long-term collaboration in technology and entrepreneurship.
Under the proposed partnership, Plug and Play intends to establish operations in Islamabad and Karachi, creating innovation hubs designed to support emerging technology ventures and strengthen Pakistan’s entrepreneurial landscape.
The initiative is expected to provide acceleration opportunities for 300 startups from leading Pakistani universities, enabling them to connect with global investors, industry experts and corporate partners through Plug and Play’s international innovation platform.
Pakistani startups participating in the programme will gain exposure to a worldwide network that includes more than 600 multinational companies, creating opportunities for mentorship, strategic partnerships and access to international markets.
The collaboration also aims to promote innovation-led economic growth by encouraging entrepreneurship, supporting the adoption of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, and strengthening Pakistan’s digital economy.
Speaking during the visit, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal said the government remains committed to creating opportunities for young entrepreneurs by building partnerships with leading global technology organisations. He noted that expanding international collaboration would help Pakistani startups grow beyond domestic markets while continuing to develop innovative solutions within the country.
The planned partnership is also expected to improve access to investment, accelerate the commercialisation of technology-based businesses and strengthen links between Pakistan’s innovation ecosystem and Silicon Valley.
Officials said the initiative represents another step towards positioning Pakistan as a knowledge-based economy by fostering innovation, supporting technology-driven enterprises and encouraging greater global engagement for local startups.
