A new chapter of opportunities is unfolding between Pakistan and Japan. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Japan, Abdul Hameed, met on Friday in Tokyo with HE MATSUO Takehiko, Vice Minister for International Affairs at Japan’s METI, to talk about how the two nations can increase industrial cooperation, particularly in the automotive and IT industries.
With more than 70 Japanese businesses already based in Pakistan, Japan sees the country’s youth population, growing market, and extraordinary potential. The discussions revolved around Pakistan’s new industrial policy to boost exports, reduce tariffs, ease regulation, and pull in foreign investment, part of the Prime Minister’s export led growth vision and 6–7% GDP increase.
The Japanese side showed interest on diversifying markets facing trade risks and emphasized the importance of transparent regulations and sector-specific incentives. The prime themes were Pakistan’s Auto Industry Development Policy, the use of biofuels (where Toyota and Suzuki are already renowned), investment in the textile sector, and the ease of special economic zones.
Both agreed to closer communication and quick follow up, with one obvious objective that is converting dialogue into action and enhancing Pakistan–Japan economic relations for the future.
