Pakistan has secured $603.4 million in financing from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) to advance major projects in infrastructure, poverty alleviation, and education. The agreements were finalized during a meeting between IsDB Vice President of Operations Dr. Rami Ahmad and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema.
The funding includes $475 million for the M6 Motorway, a 120.8 km stretch of the Peshawar-Karachi Motorway, $118.4 million for the Poverty Graduation Project benefiting 68,500 households, and $10 million for an education initiative in AJ&K targeting 60,000 children.
Minister Cheema praised IsDB’s support, calling the M6 Motorway “a flagship project” and expressing hope for continued collaboration. Dr. Ahmad highlighted the strong partnership, noting that IsDB’s Country Engagement Framework (2023–2025) had exceeded its $956 million financing target.
Both sides also discussed a new Member Country Partnership Strategy (2026–2030), which will align with Pakistan’s Uraan Pakistan Economic Transformation Plan. Officials said the strategy would deepen cooperation and strengthen Pakistan’s efforts toward sustainable development.
