Pakistan and China have strengthened cooperation in education, agriculture, and industry with the first China Pakistan Symposium on Education, Science and Industrial Cooperation held in Islamabad on January 20, 2026.
The event took place at COMSTECH headquarters and brought together over 50 participants from government departments, universities, research bodies, and private enterprises from both countries. Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, delivered the keynote address, while the session was chaired by Professor Zhang Lixin of Northwest A&F University.
Discussions focused on higher education partnerships, agricultural development, and industrial collaboration. Officials highlighted ongoing joint programmes with Chinese universities in areas such as space science and traditional Chinese medicine.
Agriculture remained a central theme. Pakistani experts stressed the need for cooperation in precision farming, smart machinery, and crop development. Chinese companies shared plans to invest in high density apple farming and modern poultry projects, with goals to increase yields while reducing water use.
Educational ties also showed progress, with hundreds of Pakistani students enrolled in agriculture programmes in China and regular exchange visits between institutions.
In closing remarks, Ambassador Khalil Hashmi described agriculture as a key pillar under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor and noted that newly approved cooperation programmes would support future collaboration. Several agreements and roadmaps were finalised following the symposium.
