OpenAI has officially launched ChatGPT Atlas, a new web browser built around its conversational AI model, marking the company’s biggest step yet into consumer internet software.
The browser, currently available on Apple’s macOS, will soon roll out to Windows, iOS, and Android users. Atlas integrates ChatGPT directly into browsing, allowing users to summarise content, compare products, analyse site data, and even automate tasks like trip planning or online shopping through an interactive sidebar.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman described Atlas as “an AI-powered web browser built around ChatGPT” during a global presentation streamed online.
The launch signals growing competition in the AI browser space, joining rivals like Perplexity’s Comet and Opera’s Neon. Shares of Alphabet, the parent company of Google Chrome, dropped 2.6 percent following the announcement.
The product aims to reshape how users search, read, and interact online by offering real-time help directly within web pages.
