In response to the ongoing monsoon flooding across Pakistan National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Pakistan in collaboration with Jazz successfully delivered geo fenced SMS alerts to over 23 million people living in high risk districts. The alerts are part of the Disaster Early Warning System DEW 3 Monsoon aiming to improve timely communication and reduce risks for vulnerable communities.
This digital initiative uses geo fencing technology to send location specific messages only to those within flood threatened areas enabling precise and relevant updates. The effort builds on a March 2025 agreement between NDMA and Jazz focused on enhancing climate resilience through digital tools and communication infrastructure.
NDMA has also leveraged multiple channels alongside mobile alerts including mainstream media digital platforms and the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert mobile app to expand outreach. These efforts form a key component of Pakistan’s broader disaster risk reduction framework as climate related hazards become more frequent and severe.
This partnership showcases how public and private sectors can jointly deploy technology to safeguard lives and property in real time. As extreme weather events increase across the region such proactive and localized systems offer scalable solutions for emergency preparedness and community resilience.
