Islamabad International Airport has officially been declared a fully digital payment enabled facility, with JazzCash recognised for leading the airport’s transition to a cashless ecosystem.
The initiative, implemented in collaboration with the Pakistan Airports Authority and the State Bank of Pakistan, aligns with the federal government’s broader push toward a cashless economy. The transformation embeds interoperable QR-based payment acceptance across passenger service counters, parking areas, and retail outlets.
Smart payment infrastructure, including Soundbox solutions for real-time transaction confirmations, has been deployed to support seamless digital transactions. Passengers can now pay fees and service charges digitally, reducing queue times, limiting physical cash handling, and improving operational transparency.
Officials from the Pakistan Airports Authority stated that the shift enhances passenger convenience while bringing airport operations in line with international digital standards. Representatives from the State Bank of Pakistan emphasised the importance of expanding digital payment acceptance across public infrastructure to strengthen nationwide trust and adoption.
The transition reflects broader institutional momentum toward scalable digital payment infrastructure in Pakistan. By integrating secure digital payment rails into critical transit infrastructure, Islamabad International Airport now sets a benchmark for other airports and commercial hubs across the country.
