In a significant step towards modernizing welfare disbursements, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shared that digital wallets will be expanded nationwide, aligning provincial systems under a unified national digital payment framework. This announcement came during a ceremony recognizing key contributors to the successful implementation of the Prime Minister’s Ramazan Relief Package.

While addressing the audience, the Prime Minister highlighted the positive impact of digital payments on welfare distribution, noting that 79% of relief funds were delivered smoothly through digital wallets. He pointed out the shortcomings of older manual systems and emphasized the importance of embracing technology to enhance efficiency and transparency.

The Prime Minister further stated that by next year, all relief disbursements will be handled digitally, aiming for complete coverage. He also noted that provincial integration into the national system is already underway and will continue in phases.

Federal Secretary of the Benazir Income Support Programme, Amir Ahmed Ali, also spoke at the event, offering insight into the role digital wallets played in ensuring timely and accurate fund transfers.

To recognize the efforts behind the program’s success, PM Sharif presented honorary shields to notable individuals from both public and private sectors. The initiative reflects a broader commitment to building a transparent and tech-driven welfare infrastructure in Pakistan.
