Sources share Intel Corporation and TSMC may be seeking more than a casual collaboration as they are said to be stepping together to form a joint venture where TSMC will have a 20% stake in managing Intel’s current chip plants in exchange for not money but intellect by training Intel’s staff and sharing technical expertise.
The Trump administration inadvertently drove the partnership along to save jobs as Intel leadership panicked over potential layoffs. With Lip-Bu Tan, the new Intel CEO since Pat Gelsinger‘s retirement nearly a month ago, boasts impressive credentials having turned Cadence Design Systems into a revenue machine and knows Intel inside out from his board days.
The partnership could mark a serious pivot for Intel, having Gelsinger’s big “revival” plan’s fallout. If it goes through, expect a reshaped Intel powered by TSMC’s unmatched tech and a whole new chapter in the chip wars.
