Ministry of Interior restricted access to Twitter, YouTube and Facebook on Tuesday amid mounting violence in the country fueled by the arrest of Pakistan’s former Prime Minister ImranKhan. This restriction alone will lead to an estimated economic loss worth approximately USD 12,661,289 per day according to NetBlocks.
NetBlocks, the global internet monitor, said on Tuesday that total internet shutdowns have been observed in some regions. The NetBlocks Cost of Shutdown Tool (COST) estimates the economic impact of an internet disruption, mobile data outage or app restriction. According to their estimates, the economic loss of the total internet shutdown in Pakistan may come down to a massive USD 53,165,123 per day.
