The Asian Development Bank is stepping up support for Pakistan’s healthcare transformation by providing regional technical assistance aimed at accelerating artificial intelligence (AI) adoption in health services. Islamabad will benefit from part of a $950,000 assistance package shared with Bangladesh and Indonesia to assess how AI can improve health promotion, screening, diagnosis and treatment.
Under the initiative, the ADB will help develop practical AI governance frameworks tailored to emerging innovations, including mechanisms for data privacy protection, avoiding algorithmic bias, and establishing post-market performance monitoring systems. Governments involved are seeking support to learn from best practices and real-world use cases for AI tools in clinical care and health management.
The technical assistance also explores AI’s potential to enhance clinical contexts, from AI-assisted point-of-care diagnosis to automation of administrative tasks that free up health workers for patient care, and boost efficiency across the healthcare ecosystem. The overall goal is to build a roadmap for AI adoption that strengthens Pakistan’s health system and prepares it for future tech-driven service delivery.
