Hub Power Company will inaugurate domestic assembly of BYD new energy vehicles in Pakistan next month, advancing regional green transit while establishing a scalable manufacturing hub near Karachi.
Hub Power Company (HUBCO), Pakistan’s leading independent power producer, has confirmed that domestic completely knocked-down (CKD) manufacturing of BYD passenger vehicles is scheduled to commence in December 2026. The rollout represents a major structural milestone in Pakistan’s transition toward electrified mobility, shifting the brand from imported retail distribution to indigenous factory assembly.
Announced during an institutional investor briefing on Tuesday, corporate leadership revealed that the Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) will headline the inaugural local assembly line. Production operations are centered at a dedicated manufacturing complex established near Karachi through Mega Motor Company, a HUBCO subsidiary created in direct partnership with China’s premier new-energy automaker. The site is engineered for an initial double-shift run-rate of 25,000 units annually, with structural capacity pre-configured to double to 50,000 vehicles as regional demand scales.
Commercial uptake for the marque has expanded rapidly prior to domestic rollout, with cumulative import deliveries already surmounting the 10,000-unit threshold. Financial disclosures compiled by Arif Habib Limited indicate the venture generated an estimated quarterly net profit of Rs1.5 billion during the opening three months of FY27, with approximately Rs780 million flowing directly to HUBCO’s consolidated balance sheet. Encouraged by these returns, executives are actively appraising broader model introductions across higher-volume B and C vehicle categories.
While initial assembly batches will rely heavily on imported sub-assemblies and specialized cells, project planners have established a long-term roadmap targeting up to 80 percent component localization. Attaining deep domestic vendor integration remains critical to shielding showroom pricing against foreign currency volatility, curbing automotive import bills, and cultivating local supply chain competence in electric propulsion and power electronics.
The operational launch of the Karachi plant marks a pivotal maturation phase for Pakistan’s automotive landscape. By combining industrial energy capital with global electric vehicle manufacturing expertise, HUBCO and BYD are testing whether competitive localized green transport can disrupt legacy combustion market shares and establish sustainable manufacturing within emerging South Asian economies.
