PTA has invited bids for an employee-focused spam protection system designed to secure official emails and strengthen internal cyber defences.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has moved to strengthen the security of its internal email network by seeking a spam protection system for employee accounts.
According to a procurement notice published through the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) portal, the telecom regulator invited suppliers to bid for a spam protection device along with licenses covering its employees.
The tender was issued on September 4 under reference number PTA/ICT/P63698/2026, with bids scheduled to close at 11am on September 21 and opening at 11:30am. The procurement follows a single-stage, one-envelope bidding procedure.
The proposed system is intended to screen official email traffic and help identify potentially harmful messages, including phishing attempts, suspicious attachments and emails designed to impersonate trusted individuals or organisations.
The solution is also expected to provide continuity for incoming official correspondence if PTA’s primary email service becomes temporarily unavailable. This could help prevent disruptions to important communications during an outage.
Employee licenses would extend the protection across PTA’s official email accounts, covering the authority’s internal communications environment.
The procurement is specifically focused on securing PTA’s own email infrastructure and is separate from systems used to address unsolicited calls or SMS messages received by telecom subscribers.
Email remains a significant avenue for cyberattacks against organisations, with malicious messages commonly used to target credentials, confidential information and network systems. A dedicated filtering system can help reduce employees’ exposure to such threats before suspicious content reaches their inboxes.
However, the procurement documents do not indicate that a supplier has been selected or that the system is already operational. The proposed security upgrade remains subject to completion of the competitive procurement process.
