MoITT launches plan for National Open Data Ecosystem to improve access to government data and support digital innovation and transparency.
Pakistan’s Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has initiated work on a National Open Data Ecosystem (NODE) to improve access to government data and support the country’s digital economy.
The proposed system aims to make public data more accessible and usable for citizens, businesses, and researchers by organising it in a structured and standardised format. The initiative is expected to enhance transparency, support innovation, and enable evidence-based decision-making across sectors.
MoITT has invited proposals from both local and international participants for the development and implementation of the platform. A pre-proposal meeting is scheduled for mid-May, while submissions are expected by mid-June.
Officials stated that the evaluation process will prioritise technical capability alongside cost considerations to ensure effective execution of the project.
The NODE initiative is part of Pakistan’s broader digital transformation strategy and is being implemented under the Digital Economy Enhancement Project, with financial support from the World Bank.
By improving access to public sector data, the government aims to strengthen public services, encourage research and innovation, and create new opportunities within the technology sector.
