Wasion wins smart meter contracts in Pakistan as IFC-backed plans push for 10 million units, boosting digitalisation and efficiency in the power sector.
Wasion Holdings Limited has secured new smart metering contracts in Pakistan as part of a broader plan to deploy 10 million meters across power distribution companies. The firm confirmed the contracts were awarded in April 2026 through international tenders, signaling its continued push into South Asia’s energy market.
The project’s supply of smart metering systems and related services, aligning with Pakistan’s efforts to modernise its electricity infrastructure. Wasion said its success in overseas bids stems from its “experience in international markets, established product portfolio and local service network.”
The development follows a Transaction Advisory Services Agreement signed on April 20, 2026, between Pakistan’s Power Division and the International Finance Corporation. Under the agreement, IFC will guide the rollout strategy, including technical and commercial assessments for a potential public-private partnership model.
The initiative aims to digitise billing and improve efficiency across DISCOs, covering 10 million single-phase connections. Wasion indicated it will continue expanding in Pakistan, focusing on technology-driven solutions and long-term power sector development.
