The Power Division has dismissed claims that the federal government has introduced a new licensing requirement for solar power users, clarifying that no such directive has been issued.
In an official statement, a spokesperson said that rules governing licenses for solar net metering are already in place and fall under the authority of National Electric Power Regulatory Authority. He emphasized that these regulations are not a recent development and are managed independently by the regulator.
The spokesperson explained that electricity distribution companies are responsible for applying these rules, while policy and regulatory oversight remains within NEPRA’s domain. He added that linking the licensing framework to a fresh federal government decision is inaccurate.
Officials also noted that the reports were published without seeking clarification from relevant authorities, contributing to public misunderstanding.
The Power Division reiterated that there has been no change in policy regarding solar installations or net metering requirements, urging consumers to rely on verified information.
