Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has begun production from its Pasakhi-13 well, marking Pakistan’s first successful horizontal oil well in a clastic reservoir, the company disclosed to the Pakistan Stock Exchange.
Located in Sindh’s Hyderabad district, the well is currently producing 460 barrels of oil per day (BPD). OGDCL stated that the well was drilled to a depth of 2,966 metres, including a 546-metre horizontal section. Advanced geo-steering technology was used to precisely navigate the reservoir zone within a narrow drilling window.
The company completed the well using a short string Electric Submersible Pump (ESP), specifically designed for horizontal well operations. According to OGDCL, “horizontal drilling allowed greater reservoir exposure,” resulting in production levels nearly three times higher than nearby wells under similar geological conditions.
Pasakhi-13 operates under the Pasakhi and Pasakhi North Development and Production Lease, where OGDCL holds full ownership. The company noted that this development is expected to boost domestic oil output and strengthen Pakistan’s overall energy supply.
