Pakistan and Jordan have pledged to deepen economic cooperation by pursuing a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) and expanding collaboration in 16 priority areas. The understanding was reached during the 10th session of the Pakistan-Jordan Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC), held in Islamabad on February 4–5.
The meeting was co-chaired by Pakistan’s Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and Jordan’s Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Yarub Qudah. Khan described the protocol as a “commitment to result-oriented cooperation,” highlighting trade, investment, and private-sector engagement as key priorities.
A major outcome of the session was the decision to begin consultations on a PTA aimed at reducing trade barriers and improving market access. Both sides also agreed to form a Joint Working Group on Trade and Investment and to activate the Pakistan-Jordan Business Council to strengthen business-to-business ties.
The commission signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Information Technology and Telecommunications to encourage digital innovation. Discussions also covered agriculture, halal standards, education, healthcare, energy, mining, tourism, and climate resilience.
Secretary of Economic Affairs Muhammad Humair Karim Kidwai stressed the importance of structured follow-up, with both countries committing to regular JMC sessions to ensure progress.
