The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a fresh advisory, calling on all telecom subscribers to register their SIM cards in their own names. The regulator warned that using SIMs issued under someone else’s identity violates rules and may result in penalties.
According to the statement, the person whose name is on record will be “held solely responsible for any misuse of a SIM, including calls, texts, or data activity carried out through that number.” Officials highlighted that accountability cannot be transferred to another party if a SIM is misused.
The PTA urged users to follow regulations and adopt responsible practices, noting that proper registration is vital for the “security, stability, and reliability” of Pakistan’s telecom system. Citizens were asked to play their part in safeguarding the network by ensuring compliance.
The authority reiterated that failure to meet these requirements could trigger enforcement measures, underscoring its commitment to maintaining discipline and trust in the country’s digital services.
