According to state-owned Radio Pakistan, Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb while meeting EU Ambassador Riina Kionka in Islamabad, reaffirmed EU businesses in the country are welcome and well-supported, especially when it comes to smoothly repatriating profits.

Trade between Pakistan and the EU has been on a steady rise with, exports to European countries jumping to 8.62%, hitting $3.866 billion, in the first five months of FY25, up from $3.559 billion last year. The EU, Pakistan’s second-largest trading partner, grants GSP+ status, which means easier market access in exchange for progress on 27 global commitments covering human rights, labor laws, environmental standards, and governance.

Aurangzeb acknowledged the EU’s support, stressing that GSP+ has been crucial for growing Pakistan’s exports. Dr. Kionka, on her part, noted that European businesses increasingly see Pakistan as a promising market. Both sides agreed on strengthening economic ties and making trade more profitable.
