Pakistan is making a big move in digital innovation with the launch of its first electronic identity card. NADRA introduced this initiative as part of its 25th-anniversary celebrations, marking a major step forward in modernizing identity management.

This new digital ID will be available through the Pak ID mobile app, allowing citizens to securely store their identification on their smartphones. To make the transition seamless, a digital verification system is also in the works, ensuring quick and reliable authentication across various services.

The pilot phase is set to begin on Independence Day 2025, supported by the World Bank’s Digital Economy Project. The official launch event at NADRA’s headquarters was attended by key officials, including its founding Chairman, Major General (Retd.) Zahid Ehsan. Federal Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi praised the initiative as a game-changer for digital security.

To commemorate NADRA’s 25-year journey, the State Bank issued a special coin, and Pakistan Post released a commemorative stamp. A documentary highlighting NADRA’s contributions was also showcased.

Citizens are encouraged to keep their records updated by canceling the ID cards of deceased family members. This initiative promises greater security, efficiency, and accessibility, making identity management in Pakistan more advanced than ever.
