Government of Punjab has started work on the feasibility and design of the Blue Line Metro Train in Lahore. Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has instructed Punjab Transport Department to speed up the process.
The 27-kilometer metro line will run from Valencia Town to Babu Sabu Chowk, passing through major areas like Johar Town, Gulberg, Kalma Chowk, and Ferozepur Road. It is expected to serve over 250,000 passengers daily.
The project will be fully underground, using advanced construction techniques with tunneling at six meters per day. The estimated cost exceeds Rs600 billion, though the final figure depends on the feasibility study.
International financial institutions from China, Japan, and France have shown interest in funding. The Punjab government has been reviewing studies, with a recent Punjab Transport Department study in June 2024 confirming an underground route.
The project has a three-year completion timeline. Once operational, it will significantly improve Lahore’s public transport system, providing a faster and more efficient travel option for thousands of daily commuters.
