Zong Launches First-of-its-Kind Smart Waste Management Stations

Zong has partnered with ISP Environmental Solutions (ISPES) to launch PecoDrop, a first-of-its-kind smart waste management station in Pakistan. The initiative combines technology, data, employee participation, and circular-economy principles to improve workplace waste management. The smart stations will enable source-level segregation of recyclable plastic, paper, and metal while creating a digitally traceable system for tracking waste deposits, volumes, and collections.

Zong is taking a technology-led approach to workplace sustainability through a new partnership with ISP Environmental Solutions (ISPES), introducing PecoDrop, a smart waste management initiative focused on making recycling easier, trackable, and more rewarding.

As part of the initiative, smart recycling stations will be placed across Zong facilities, giving employees dedicated points to dispose of recyclable materials including plastic, paper, and metal. Instead of allowing recyclable waste to be mixed with general waste, PecoDrop encourages segregation at the source, helping improve the recovery of materials that could otherwise end up in landfills.

What sets the initiative apart is its focus on data. PecoDrop uses a digital system to record details about the materials deposited, including quantities and collection information. This creates a traceable trail for recyclable waste, allowing the movement of materials from the point of disposal to recovery to be monitored more systematically.

The programme also brings an incentive-based element to recycling. Employees who use the smart stations can earn Credits for their recyclable deposits. Their contributions can be tracked digitally, while accumulated Credits can be redeemed for rewards. The system is intended to turn an otherwise routine activity into a more engaging workplace habit by giving employees a visible way to track their participation.

Nabila Yazdani, Zong’s Head of Strategy and Company Spokesperson, highlighted the role of technology and employee participation in developing more measurable sustainability practices. She noted that the company’s use of technology extends beyond connectivity, with a focus on supporting sustainable operations, responsible resource management, and environmental and social impact.

According to ISPES CEO Dr. Zillay Maryam, PecoDrop is intended to go beyond simply providing recycling bins. She described the initiative as an initial step toward a circular economy, with technology enabling waste to be separated earlier in the disposal process and subsequently channelled toward recovery and recycling.

The partnership comes alongside World Cleanup Day and reflects an effort to integrate sustainability into everyday workplace behaviour rather than limiting it to occasional environmental campaigns.

By combining digital tracking, smart collection points, employee incentives, and recycling practices, PecoDrop aims to create a more structured model for workplace waste management while encouraging employees to play a direct role in reducing recyclable waste and supporting more responsible resource use.
