Telenor and UNICEF jointly marked the conclusion of their three-year collaboration on child online protection with a closing ceremony bringing together stakeholders from government, civil society, academia, the private sector, and young people from across the country.
Representatives from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), National Commission on the Rights of Child Pakistan, National Cyber Security Emergency Response Team, United Nations agencies, and diplomatic missions attended the event, which highlighted achievements made through cross-sector engagement. Children and youth played a central role, sharing creative messages on responsible and inclusive digital citizenship, while the launch of the Child Online Protection Anthem by the NCRC Child Advisory Panel underscored collective resolve against online exploitation and abuse.
Key insights were also shared from the ongoing Disrupting Harm II study, conducted with ECPAT International and INTERPOL, one of Pakistan’s largest research efforts on online child sexual exploitation and abuse. The study’s full findings, due in April 2026, are expected to guide future policy and legislative reforms.
Speaking at the event, Telenor Pakistan CEO Fridtjof Rusten stressed that safeguarding children online requires joint action across sectors. UNICEF Pakistan Representative Pernille Ironside noted that the partnership has helped lay the groundwork for a stronger national child online protection framework.
Organisers said the collaboration has strengthened awareness, policy advocacy, and digital safety education, setting the stage for sustained efforts to protect children in Pakistan’s expanding digital landscape.
