
Punjab has launched a Rs.36.12 billion climate-smart mechanisation programme with ADP support. Farmers will receive a 30% subsidy on machinery to boost productivity and reduce costs. The initiative targets climate-resilient wheat and rice cultivation.
The Government of Punjab has launched a climate-smart mechanisation programme worth Rs.36.12 billion, backed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), to improve agricultural productivity and lower farming costs. Titled Transforming Punjab’s Agriculture through Climate Smart Mechanisation, the initiative was inaugurated by Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture @Usama Khan Laghari.
Under the programme, farmers will be eligible for a 30 per cent subsidy on agricultural machinery used for the mechanised cultivation and harvesting of wheat and rise. Officials said the scheme aims to enhance crop yields while promoting climate-resilient and sustainable farming practices across the province.
Laghari said Punjab had already spent Rs66 billion over the past two years on mechanisation initiatives, which have helped reduce production costs and increase output. He added that continued investment in modern farming techniques would strengthen food security and farmers’ incomes.
Punjab Secretary Agriculture iftikhar ali sahoo said the programme also includes the establishment of a dedicated training institute for machinery operators ands mechanics. ADB Country Director Xiaoqin Emma Fan praised Punjab’s agricultural reforms and reaffirmed the bank’s support for climate-resilient agriculture in the province.
