Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said her government is translating promises into tangible public relief with the province’s first government-led initiative offering free home delivery of essential commodities at controlled prices.
The project, implemented through the Punjab Sahulat Bazaars Authority (PSBA), is currently operational in 35 cities through 46 Sahulat Bazaars. It allows citizens to order basic food items for doorstep delivery without any delivery charges. Official figures show more than 312,000 orders have already been delivered across the province.
Under the scheme, prices of 13 essential items have been fixed below officially notified district commissioner (DC) rates, providing relief of up to seven percent. Available items include vegetables and fruits such as potatoes, onions, tomatoes, garlic, apples, bananas and watermelon, along with staples including gram lentils, gram flour (besan), wheat flour and sugar.
Orders can be placed through a dedicated mobile application available on both Android and iOS platforms, with PSBA riders handling deliveries.
Officials estimate the initiative has enabled consumers to save around Rs110 million so far. Reiterating her administration’s stance, the chief minister said inflationary pressures would not be passed on to the public and confirmed that the service would be gradually expanded to more cities.
