Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Riyadh on Wednesday for an official visit at the invitation of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The trip highlights the enduring strategic and economic ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, which span financial assistance, energy supplies, defence cooperation, and shared Islamic heritage.
According to the Foreign Office, the Prime Minister will hold a bilateral meeting with the Crown Prince to review the full scope of relations. Both leaders are expected to discuss regional and global developments of mutual concern, with the visit likely to formalize new avenues of cooperation in diverse fields.
Upon entering Saudi airspace, the Prime Minister’s aircraft was escorted by Saudi Air Force jets, a gesture described by state media as a sign of respect and brotherhood. The Foreign Office emphasized that the visit will consolidate the “historic relationship” while exploring opportunities for deeper collaboration that benefits the people of both nations.
The Prime Minister is accompanied by a high-level delegation including Deputy PM Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Environment Minister Dr. Musadik Malik, and special assistant to PM Tariq Fatemi. The visit follows earlier meetings between Pakistani and Saudi leaders aimed at boosting trade, investment, and cultural exchange.
