Under the ‘Uraan Pakistan’ initiative, Pakistan aims to create space history by launching its first astronaut to space through China’s Tiangong space station in 2026. The Federal Minister for Planning, Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary, made the announcement during a visit to Beijing, where he held talks with the Chinese Space Agency and Atomic Energy Authority.
Stating that under the leadership and vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan’s space program has gained new momentum, he emphasised how this mission represents a significant step in Pakistan’s space and technology aspirations and demonstrates strengthening scientific cooperation with China. It is important to note that this announcement comes after a string of satellite agreements and falls in line with upcoming plans for a 2035 lunar mission.
This project under a broader campaign aims to acquire advanced skills in quantum computing, aeronautics, and nuclear technology, with enhanced coordination between Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Comission (SUPARCO) and Chinese counterparts. With the nation looking beyond Earth, this mission promises to usher a new era of national pride and scientific adventure.
